This because they like to split up too (for the most part but it just depends). If you have to stay at a post and another two go wander out, it could help you defeat the enemy tanks faster. If all of your team is together then that's fine, but splitting up works very well too. You never know which opponent will be aggressive or not. They also can keep an eye out for other enemies who may be trying to sneak their way to your location for close combat. They can help you defeat enemy tanks quicker if you shoot together.
It also may be wise to stay close to a teammate or two. This is great if you want a more conservative approach. It might be a good idea to hide, peek out and shoot and then rinse and repeat. There are several obstacles you can take cover behind if you wish.
